Try to relax your body and breathe through your contractions while repeating positive affirmations (either in your head or out loud—whatever feels right). If you have a partner, encourage them to practice counter pressure techniques with you. This will help you discover what feels good during labor, although your preferences may change once labor actually begins.
Remember, you only need to get through one contraction at a time! Your baby is feeling the contractions too. Both of you are working hard together, and each contraction is bringing your baby closer to being in your arms and experiencing that special skin-to-skin contact.
